This includes keeping the wound dry, clean, and applying ointment or cream according to the doctor’s instructions.
A C-section wound can take up to three months to heal fully, depending on how well they are cared for after delivery.
Being overweight can cause the c-section incision to become wet and difficult to heal.
This is because excessive fat can trap moisture and create an ideal environment for bacteria growth.
There are a few things to know regarding how to keep c section incision dry when overweight:
Don’t work too hard
You should avoid doing any hard lifting or strenuous activities that could lead to sweat or moisture for at least six weeks after your c-section.
This is the amount of time recommended by doctors to allow your incision to heal properly.
Use some padding around the wound
You could use a napkin, cloth diaper, or towel over your c section incision to help reduce the amount of moisture that accumulates around the surgical site.
Wear high-waisted underwear
High-waisted underwear will prevent the clothing from rubbing against the wound, minimizing the amount of contact with moisture and bacteria.
Use steri strips
Another thing you can do to keep your c section incision dry when overweight is to use medical tape known as “steri strips” or “butterfly stitches”.
This tape holds two pieces of skin together as they heal following a surgical incision.
